FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to Your Questions

I'd like to first thank you for considering Shade & Light for your tattoo. Please keep in mind that this is a private studio and a small volume shop with high demand. I am focused on fully custom original work. My clients are collectors of art who appreciate a welcoming environment, commitment to diversity, and personalized service.

I love art and the art of tattooing. I have developed my own artistic style in my traditional art works and in my tattoo style. There are some styles that I don't tattoo, I will let you know that I am not the right artist for you if your piece is not something that I feel will work in my style. Please take a look at my portfolio to see the type of work that I specialize in and get a sense of whether I am the right artist for you.

HERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT I DO NOT OFFER:

  • Copies of other artist work - meaning no copies of other tattoos, or renderings of existing artworks from anywhere like google, Pinterest, etc.

  • Finishing or repairing tattoos done by other artist.

  • Designs for you to bring to another tattoo artist.

  • Tattoo parties or group discounts.

  • Any same-day tattoos. no matter how small.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOURS?

That is a great question! I don't have any... seriously, I come in when I have a scheduled appointment to tattoo or a consult with a client. When I am in session the studio doors remain locked to respect the time of my client in the chair as I do not have daily counter help. Currently I do not have walk-in hours.  Shade & Light is by appointment only.

DO YOU DO PIERCING?

No, Shade & Light is strictly a tattoo shop. Google ( and everyone) seems to group our two industries together, so we may have popped up in your search.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET A TATTOO?

At Shade & Light you must be 18yrs and up to be tattooed. Adults of any age must present a current government issued ID (driver's license, state ID, military ID, or passport) in order to be tattooed, no exceptions.

CAN I JUST CALL OR STOP BY THE SHOP TO SCHEDULE?

No. In order to stay organized and handle all request I use email for all bookings. If you walk in or call and ask to schedule a consultation or appointment you will be asked/ directed to email via the website page. Please check out the Booking information page in the menu selection tab.

HOW MUCH DOES A TATTOO COST?

Asking " How much a tattoo cost?" is like asking " How much for a bag of groceries?" It varies, hugely based on what is in it , how big the bag is, and where you're buying it. Many factors go into the price of a tattoo, including design, placement, and size. Your idea of "small" or "simple" is most likely not the same as the industry or the artist standard of "small' or "simple". I do not want to give anyone inaccurate information. You will receive a price estimate only after a comprehensive discussion at your consult appointment. The shop minimum to get a miniscule tattoo is $100 and they go up from there.
You will not receive a price quote /range for a tattoo over the phone or email.

CAN YOU RECOMMEND OTHER TATTOO ARTIST FOR ME?

You are the expert in what you want! You owe it to yourself to do the proper research to find the best artist for you. If my style of art does not match your needs or want's, there are many other wonderful artists in the area and in state. The internet and Instagram are great resources.

DO YOU HAVE GIFT CERTIFICATES?

No, since there are no walk-in hours, we wouldn't want you to purchase a gift for someone who may not be able to use it if they aren't able to book an appointment.

IS A DEPOSIT NEEDED? WHY IS A DEPOSIT NEEDED?

Yes! A non-refundable deposit is needed to book an appointment. Just like your time is important to you, my time is important to me. The deposit ensures your appointment time in the book and is held for you, also the deposit is an art deposit which gives me the ok to start work on the art for your specific project.  What people do not seem to consider is, that appointment made that has a no-show is time wasted that could have been filled by another person serious about booking. It is also time wasted and lost spent on custom artwork designs.

I'll repeat that for those in the back deposits are non-refundable.

If you have questions about how to book an appointment or how to contact me, please read the " Booking information" page.
There is a strict guideline for scheduling. Please read the booking information carefully. Emailing or calling the shop outside of the guidelines laid out on that page may not result in a reply.
